We believe we have developed a niche at our store. It's a simple one, we actually sell antiques! We are not a run of the mill antique store that sells some antiques intermixed with new stuff and reproductions. We allow a maximum 10% of the items in the store to be newer, and most of our dealers keep well below that. We work hard to weed out reproductions and maintain the highest standards. We really do pride ourselves on our customer service too. As the owners; we welcome any feedback from our customers, good or bad. Our customer base grows every year because of the attention we pay to detail and the service we provide to our industry. Antiquing at Cheshire Antiques is like stepping back in time to another era where friendly service is not a lost art, but just our way of doing business. When purchasing an antique, you are acquiring a small piece of history.

Arendt Jensen Merchandise (Carson Valley Mercantile)
Arendt Jensen built this general merchandise store in the spring of 1896. On the store shelves shoppers could find a wide variety of everyday necessities and supplies, from clothing to agricultural tools and seeds. Mr. Jensen also founded the Douglas County Farmer's Bank in Gardnerville-the first bank in Carson Valley. Mr. Jensen sold the adjoining property to the Masonic Lodge in 1919. Members of the Masonic Lodge laid the corner stone for the existing building on April 29, 1921. Masonic lodge #33 still holds regular meetings upstairs to this day. While it appears that the site contains one building, there are actually two buildings on two separate parcels.
Karen and Richard Campbell opened Cheshire Antiques in January of 2005. They started the first 6,000' of the store with only a handful of dealers and a nice selection armoires, bedroom sets, dressers, dining room sets and many smaller antiques such as glassware, pottery, and wall hangings. The store now encompasses two buildings with more than 12,000' of great antique furniture as well as Indian artifacts, and the glassware, china, pottery, and sports memorabilia are better than ever. With 40+ dealers, the selection of antiques gets better every day. When you can't stop by in person, shop us online, you will love the selection of quality antiques and the unsurpassed customer service Cheshire Antiques offers.

*Antiquing in the Carson Valley*
Shopping for antiques in Gardnerville and Minden Nevada, is more than just shopping; it is a historical experience. The Carson Valley is the birthplace and garden spot of Nevada located at the base of the Sierra Nevada just minutes away from Lake Tahoe.
This lush valley, with its spectacular scenery, was a stopping place for emigrants to rest themselves and their livestock before crossing the daunting Sierras on their way to seek their fortunes in the California gold fields. Some stayed behind to become ranchers or merchants and established trading posts along the Emigrant trail.
Shortly after the start of the California Gold Rush, silver was discovered in Nevada, and the small towns in the valley began to boom as people made their way to the silver mines of Virginia City and the Comstock Lode, which are less than an hour away. These towns still retain their historical character and charm with tree-lined streets, western and Victorian architecture, beautiful parks, and museums.
